Haulin' Oats was dreamed up one frosty day in late 1996. Neil Meckelborg and Grant Sotnikow (two musicians between jobs at the time) were sitting down to a coffee and thought, "Hey, how 'bout a duo for playing weddings? There aren't many out there, and it's cheaper than a band!" After much thought (5 or 6 minutes) and another half a dozen coffees, they decided to give it a whirl. Since they had both played in wedding bands before, it wasn't that difficult to come up with a song list, but what about a name...... hhmmmm...... After another half a dozen coffees and a few donuts (it was getting to be supper time by now) they decided to try a few names of popular duos on the radio and see if any inspiration came from this. (Real creative musician types) "Hall and Oates" came to mind, but no, that would be just a plain rip-off to use their name. "Hey, how 'bout Haulin' Oats? We do live in Saskatchewan!" The rest is history!!! Haulin Oats plays anything from "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash) to "Rock and Roll All Nite" (Kiss). We have the drums and bass played courtesy of a Kurzweil K-2000VX (that means they sound good), and we carry a wicked rig! (that's musician talk for a good sounding P.A. system) We have played numerous functions in and around Saskatoon, including weddings, night clubs, parties, etc., all to great response. We are both energetic and entertaining performers, and have played in bands for 15 years (started young). You too can be a part of history by booking "Haulin' Oats" for your entertainment! We're waiting to hear from you.......... come on I dare you!
