What does it cost? Everybody wants to know how much it costs to record. That is a difficult question to answer. It depends on what you want in the end. Is it going to be a national release that you are intending to sell in music stores next the current crop of albums released be the major labels? Or do you just need a demo tape to send to nightclubs, managers, etc.? The national release version can cost from $5000.00 to 15,000.00. If you have karaoke discs and want to sing overtop of them, it can be done for as little as $50.00. This 6-song demo was done for $650.00. It took 10 hours total. This was a four-piece band that came in with the songs READY. That is an important point! If you come in and want to make changes, or try ideas in the studio, your $650.00 demo can become $1000.00 in no time at all. That isn't necessarily bad. I've worked with bands that purposely left some things open ended when that came into the studio. It can leave more room to take advantage of some of the tools that a professional studio has to offer that you don't have access to at home (keyboards, loops, effects, different guitar amps, mics, etc.). Just as long as you know that your budget has to be bigger if you want to take the time to do that. Most full-length albums that have come out of Meckelborg Music's studio have cost between $2000.00 and $5000.00. The cost is completely up to you.
